Salary and Pay Structure

The salary for Indian Railway Technicians is governed by the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC):

  • Technician Grade-I Signal (Pay Level-5): Initial basic pay of Rs. 29,200/- per month plus applicable railway allowances.
  • Technician Grade-III (Pay Level-2): Initial basic pay of Rs. 19,900/- per month plus applicable allowances.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

1. Age Limit (As of July 1, 2026)

  • Technician Grade-I Signal: 18 to 33 Years.
  • Technician Grade-III: 18 to 30 Years.

Age Relaxation Rules:

  • SC & ST Candidates: 5 Years
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: 3 Years
  • PwBD Candidates: 10 to 15 Years (depending on community)

2. Educational Qualifications (As of July 29, 2026)

Candidates must possess the final passing certificates on or before the closing date:

  • Technician Grade-I Signal: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Instrumentation; OR a 3-year Diploma/Degree in Engineering in these core streams.
  • Technician Grade-III: Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognized NCVT/SCVT institutions in the specific trade required; OR Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA).
  • Note for 10+2 Students: Candidates who have passed 10+2 with Physics and Maths are eligible exclusively for the Technician Grade-III (S&T) post.

Application Fee Structure

The examination fee varies based on the category and is partially or fully refundable upon appearing for the exam:

  • General / OBC / EWS Candidates: Rs. 500/- (Rs. 400 will be refunded after deducting bank charges upon appearing in the CBT).
  • SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen / PwBD / Female / Transgender / Minorities / EBC: Rs. 250/- (Rs. 250 will be fully refunded after appearing in the CBT).

Selection Process

The RRB Technician recruitment process involves three definitive stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): Separate single-stage objective-type online exams will be conducted for each Pay Level.
    • Grade-I Signal Syllabus: General Awareness, Reasoning, Basics of Computers, Mathematics, and Basic Science & Engineering.
    • Grade-III Syllabus: Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness.
    • Negative Marking: There is a penalty of 1/3rd mark for every incorrect answer.
  2. Document Verification (DV): Candidates will be called for document verification in a 1:1 ratio based on their CBT merit scores.
  3. Medical Examination: Shortlisted candidates must pass the requisite medical and visual fitness tests conducted by the Railway Administration.
